POCATELLO — A new hotel will fill the empty lot in front of the Holiday Inn Express in Pocatello. A new Fairfield Marriott is scheduled to break ground today and construction will begin in late July.
According to Director of Sales Joshua Bennett, the new hotel will boast roughly 80 units. And it will offer a hot breakfast buffet, pool, hot tub and fitness center.
Fairfield Marriott has over 700 locations worldwide and three locations in the surrounding area — Idaho Falls, Burley and Afton. While this will be its first hotel in Pocatello it will have to compete with the over 15 hotels that already call Pocatello home.
Despite all that competition, Bennett said they expect plenty of business, mostly from corporate travel.
“The Pocatello market offers a large market of corporate business travel,” said Bennett. “We’re expecting some summer leisure travel, but that is only a small part, since it’s seasonal.”
After construction begins, around late July or early August, Bennett said they are expecting the hotel to be finished in roughly 11 months. This will put the hotel opening sometime in summer 2017.
According to Bennett, they are still waiting on final designs from their architect, so exactly what the hotel will look like is still unknown.
Bennett said it’s likely they won’t have the final design for the groundbreaking — they will simply feature the Fairfield Marriott logo on everything, including the cake.
With fast-food restaurants flooding into Chubbuck, some spilling into Pocatello, this will be one of the very few new non-food related businesses opening in the area this summer.
