CHUBBUCK — The sweet smell of Chipotle’s lime and cilantro-infused white rice, barbacoa pork and fresh veggies is officially coming to the Pocatello/Chubbuck area on Thursday.
The Mexican grill will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is located near the Pine Ridge Mall, surrounded by Red Robin, Panera Bread, Popeyes Louisiana Chicken and Noodles and Co.
“We’re very excited about the grand opening of our Pocatello restaurant,” said Gabriela Bell, restaurateur and team leader at Chipotle Mexican Grill.
Along with its Mexican menu, Chipotle is bringing about 30 new jobs to the area.
The restaurant is one of many in the “fast casual” category that have opened around Pocatello and Chubbuck. According to industry analysts, fast-casual dining is the strongest growing segment across the restaurant industry at 10.4 percent, increasing by $3.4 billion from 2014 to 2015.
That data is from Technomic’s Fast Casual Top 100 report. The top two chains on Technomic’s list of 100 best performers were Panera Bread and Chipotle.
However, excellent industry conditions were only a part of Chipotle’s opening in Pocatello.
“Pocatello is a growing area and, along with nearby Idaho State University, there is a huge opportunity to provide high-quality, fresh food to locals,” Bell said. “Chipotle believes in ‘Food With Integrity,’ meaning there is a focus on using fresh ingredients grown and raised with respect for farmers, animals and the environment, and prepared using classic cooking methods. Chipotle is thrilled to bring delicious food to Pocatello, its sixth restaurant in Idaho.”
The new location will have an inside dining area and an outside patio area. The restaurant will seat about 85 people.
In addition to eating in the restaurant, customers can place an order online or via fax in advance for pick-up orders. The fax order number is 208-237-5481.
Chipotle has positioned itself as the fresh place to eat when it comes to the fast casual dining. The restaurant aims to use high-quality raw ingredients and classic cooking techniques to bring features from the realm of fine dining to the world of quick-service restaurants.
While company officials didn’t provide specifics on where their ingredients are currently coming from, Bell did say that they are actively looking for local farmers to provide those ingredients.
“Chipotle is always looking for farms that produce the best ingredients possible,” Bell said. “Farms interested in applying to become an approved Chipotle producer can learn more at chipotle.com/localgrowersupport.”
Company officials say the restaurant will not be hosting any special grand opening events on Thursday. However, Bell referenced a few deals that frequent-eaters could get in on.
“Though there aren’t any specific grand opening events, customers can look forward to several promotions and buy-one-get-one offers in the coming months,” Bell said.
The hottest deal for price-savvy Chipotle lovers is Chiptopia, the restaurant’s summer rewards program. Information on how to sign up is at chipotle.com/chiptopia.
Bell added that the restaurant would like to become involved in the community.
“Chipotle believes in supporting like-minded community organizations like K-12 schools, youth groups, university groups, community gardens, and sustainable food and agriculturally-focused groups,” Bell said. “Chipotle frequently hosts in-restaurant fundraisers where 50 percent of sales go directly back to organizations. With the new opening, Chipotle is looking for great Pocatello community partners. Organizations interested in partnering with Chipotle for a fundraiser can apply on the website at chipotle.com/philanthropy.”
The new restaurant is located at 4013 Yellowstone Ave., Suite F.
